PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY

Peripheral Neuropathy, also known as Peripheral Nerve Disease, is one of the most common diseases most people have never heard of (15-20 million, perhaps as high as 40 million Americans have peripheral nerve disease). Caused by deterioration of the peripheral nerves, neuropathy disrupts the body's ability to communicate with its muscles, organs and tissues. Neuropathy is like the body's wiring system going haywire, causing unusual or unpleasant irritations including numbness, tingling, burning, itchiness, crawling sensation, dizziness, clumsiness and more. If ignored, as they too often are, these neuropathy symptoms can lead to numbness at one extreme to unremitting pain at the other. Our therapeutic laser system has been extremely effective in reducing and eliminating the pain, discomfort, and misery associated with this condition.

SOME FACTS ABOUT NEUROPATHY:

  • Up to 60% of diabetics suffer with neuropathy
  • 30% of neuropathy cases are diabetics
  • Neuropathy affects about 20-40 million people in the US
  • Up to 30% of neuropathies are of unknown or idiopathic causes
HIGH POWER LASER THERAPY
High power laser therapy is a new non-invasive treatment performed on an out patient basis for neuropathy sufferers that have previously been non-responsive to other forms of treatment.

How?

Results come from the laser's ability to "Bio-stimulate" tissue growth and repair. This results in accelerated wound healing as well as a dramatic decrease in pain, inflammation, and scar tissue formation. Unlike all other treatment modalities, a laser treatment actually stimulates the damaged tissues. The goal of this stimulation is to restore function to the tissues, which translates into decreased symptoms and increased function for the patient. The laser's superior results come from its ability to safely deliver therapeutic laser energy to the targeted tissues.

Biological Effects of Therapeutic Lasers

Laser therapy aims to biostimulate injured and dysfunctional tissues. Clinical studies and trials of class three and four laser technology indicate the following beneficial effects of light therapy on tissues and cells:

One.       Anti-pain (analgesic)
Two.       Accelerated tissue repair and cell growth.
Three.     Improve nerve function.
Four.      Anti-inflammation
Five.      Improved vascular activity.
Six.        Increased metabolic activity.
Seven.   Reduced fibrous tissue formation.
Eight.     Faster wound healing.

What is so Special about This Class IV Therapy?
The power to utilize a wide, therapeutic beam of laser energy.  This allows the depth of penetration to get to the damaged nerves that are deep within the bodies tissues.  The wide beam is safe and cannot damage the tissues like a narrow, concentrated surgical beam.  The actual physiological activity that a class III or "cold" laser produces is similar to a class IV.  The problem is that the penetration is so slight, so shallow, that it just can't reach the damaged nerves.  A class IV laser allows for the safe application of therapeutic laser deep into the tissues to affect the damaged nerves.

Is it Safe?
The laser as it is used in this office is very safe.  The Avicenna website (the manufacturers of the laser) states that "In over 30 years of therapeutic laser usage there has never been a reported side effect."!!
